Meet Twyla Atmore
Deputy District Attorney, Ventura County District Attorney’s Office
Twyla Atmore began her career as a prosecutor in Imperial County in the Autumn of 2016. There, she prosecuted everything from DUIs and petty thefts to three-strike cases and murders. In 2021 she returned to her home town and began working for the Ventura County District Attorney’s office. She was quickly placed in the Sexual Assault Unit and specially assigned to overseeing the commitment of sexually violent predators to indefinite terms at Coalinga State Hospital. In the Summer of 2024 she was given the additional assignment of Human Trafficking. During her nearly four years in the Sexual Assault unit she has successfully prosecuted child and adult sexual assault cases, the human trafficking of minors, and assisted in investigations that closed numerous illicit massage parlors throughout the county.
Twyla grew up in Ventura County and attended college at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree, she spent ten years working for a company that taught independent living skills to adults with developmental disabilities. During that time she attended the Southern California Institute of Law at night, earning her Juris Doctorate in 2014. She is now working on a masters degree in International Criminal Law through the University of New Hampshire, expecting to complete her studies this Spring.
